Storing Wines at home
It is important to know the proper method to store wine at home as the environment of the storage area affects how the wines mature. This is even more crucial if u plan to sell these wines away. Below are a few guidelines which you can follow to store wines in your house.
- Ideal Temperature
- It has to be constant and between 10 degree to 15 degree. Extreme temperature changes may spoil the wine.
- Ideal Humidity
- About 60 to 80 percent
- If it is too humid the labels will get mouldy
- If its too dry the wine may evaporate when the cork dry out
- Ideal Lighting
- Wine is best stored in dark places ( e.g underground cellar )
- As sunlight can pass through the transparent glass thus spoiling the wines it ias best that they stored in dark places
- Air circulation
- Make sure the storage area have air circulating as stale air has smells that affect the flavour of wines
- Keep any other odiferous items away from the storage area
- Positioning
- Store wine at horizontal position to prevent the cork from drying up , thus making it the stopper loose allowing the wine to escape
